Not wanting a big wedding and looking into eloping? Here are the steps, and some tips, on how to plan the perfect Vancouver elopement!

How To Plan The Perfect Vancouver Elopement

Locations & Permits

Vancouver has a great selection of beautiful locations that are perfect for elopements! Alice Lake is a wonderful and naturally beautiful setting featuring mountains, forest trees, and grassy areas. There are plenty of hiking trails to take your elopement off course while having the opportunity to unite with the glorious mountains creating a picturesque backdrop!

Another lovely location is Cates Park, which offers a less populated beach option for elopements. Cates Park features a 2.4km park loop with lush forests, viewpoints, and water access to the rocky beach on the west coast.

For a more rustic environment, a field in Squamish is located right next to the Skwelwil’em Squamish Estuary Wildlife Management Area and provides a beautifully intimate elopement setting. This field would be a superb neutral and nomadic option for you!

Alouette Lake is another attractive option since it is less crowded than other beaches. There is a view of the Golden Ears mountain range as well as a view of the water. This location gives a light and airy aura, perfect for an incredible backdrop!

In Vancouver’s outdoor areas, you will find stunning natural beauty that will make your elopement memorable! And just think about the incredible photos you’ll have!

Obtaining a Marriage License

Obtaining a marriage license is pretty simple overall here in Vancouver! To get a marriage license, the bride and groom must appear together in person and submit a marriage license application at the Recording/Marriage License Department. Before you apply, you must ensure you are eligible for a marriage license, which means being above the age of 18 and being able to present a photo ID.

Guest List

Luckily for you and your elopement goals, Vancouver only requires two witnesses present for your marriage, so you can omit a guest list entirely if you’d like! You don’t even have to have close friends or family be your witnesses, as you can ask court staff to be witnesses, for example.
